The 2025 Sentry Tournament of Champions Recap

Kapalua, HI – Hideki Matsuyama has won The Sentry Tournament of Champions.  With this win, he became the first winner of the 2025 season and earned his 11th PGA Tour win.  Along with the title, the trophy, and 700 FedEx Cup points, he has also earned $3.6 million.

The Sentry Tournament of Champions is often an easy start into the season for the pros, with the winning scores often being among the lowest for the entire season.  This year was no different.  Utilizing his new center-shafted Scotty Cameron putter, he was scoring low every day putting together rounds of 65, 65, 62, and 65.

In fact, Matsuyama shot the lowest 72-hole score to par in the history of the PGA Tour for any tournament, carding a 35-under for the tournament.  With him playing so well, the only player that even put pressure on him was Colin Morikawa.  While Morikawa would ultimately finish three strokes behind, with a score of 32 under par, it marked an exciting return to form for him as all aspects of his game looked finely tuned.

Matsuyama and Morikawa separated themselves from the field with their stellar play, but several other top PGA Tour players also played successfully.  Sungjae Im and Jhonattan Vegas would finish in third and fourth with scores of 29 and 25-under par respectively.

The next event will also be in Hawaii, the Sony Open.  It is the first full-field event for the PGA Tour’s 2025 season.  Last year’s champion Grayson Murray will unfortunately not be able to defend his title, as he passed away last season.
